Biography

Bontle Jade-Lee Modiselle is a popular South African creative known for her many talents including acting, television and radio presenting, dancing, choreography, singing and modeling. She gained recognition after appearing in the dance film “Watch Me Move” which earned her a “Best Supporting Actress” nod at the 2015 Africa Movie Academy Awards.

Early Life

Bontle Jade-Lee Modiselle was born to parents, Percy and Grace Modiselle in Soweto, Johannesburg. She was mainly raised in the North-Eastern region of Johannesburg. Modiselle is of the Bantu-speaking ethnic group, Tswana. Bontle has two sisters who are also in the entertainment industry. They include fashion model, Refilwe Modiselle and Television Personality, Candice Modiselle. Their father, Percy Modiselle was also a model.

He died through suicide causing Bontle to blame herself for it. She had dreamt of the action and told her parents about the nightmare before it happened. Her father’s death had a heavy effect on her.

After attaining recognition in dance and acting, Bontle made her television debut in 2016 as the co-host of the SABC 2 reality competition series franchise, Showville alongside Rob van Vuuren. Along with her sisters, she presented an award at the South African Film And Television Awards in the same year.

The following year, Bontle was announced as Boity’s replacement to co-host the e.TV music show, Club 808 joining Lawrence Maleka. The show ended in March 2018. Bontle also hosted the second season of the SABC 1 rap competition series, One Mic which premiered in February, 2019. Bontle has also choreographed several events and shows including MTV Base’s Lip Sync battle, MAMAs 2016, and more.

In August 2019, Bontle Modiselle and then, fiancé, Priddy Ugly announced via social media that they were expecting their first child together. Bontle Modiselle began her dance career in 2007. She enrolled in dance classes at the time led by choreographers. She made her Entertainment industry debut as a music video model and an occasional dancer. She appeared in various videos of well known South African artists including DJ Tira, Rouge, and the Major League Djz. From the dancing scene, she moved into acting, making her debut in the dance film “Watch Me Move” in 2014. She played “Khanyi”, a supporting role in the film. Her role in the film earned her a “Best Supporting Actress” nomination at the 2015 Africa Movie Academy Awards. This was a huge feat for an acting debut.

The following month, on 28th September, the couple tied the knot at an intimate traditional African wedding attended by only their close friends and family. Their daughter, Afrika Bonita Lerato Moloi was born a little after their marriage.

Sisters


Bontle Modiselle has two sisters. Candice and Refilwe Modiselle. Candice is a television presenter, while Refilwe Modiselle is South Africa’s first professional fashion model with Albinism. She is also a singer and an actress. She began her career at the age of 13 after being approached by Y! Magazine. She has since walked the runaway for David Tlale and more. She became the first albinistic South African model to walk the runway. In 2013, she was part of the Oprah Magazine “Power List” after which she began her acting career.
