The Amapiano stars, Mpura, Killer Kau and the three other artists, TD, The Voice and Thando Tot who died in a car accident on the 8th of August 2021 will be honoured next week.
In remembrance of the late stars, a trip called The Big Five Link Up has been planned by their family members and friends.
According to Daily Sun, “the convoy, which will be held on Sunday, 7 August, exactly a year after they died, will be heading to the scene of the accident for a candlelight ceremony, then to Westpark Cemetry and Nasrec Memorial Park.”
One of the organizers named, Mpho Makua spoke to the publication about the late stars and the planned trip.
“We were close to the guys, to a level where we knew they were breadwinners in their homes,” he said.
“So, we wanted to come up with something that would be a legacy, but also become a solution for the families. In most cases, when celebs die, people forget that they were heroes and role models in their own right and had responsibilities, but we haven’t,” he said
“We want to keep their legacies alive because they are legends and they will go into the history books. So, they must be remembered, even by the generations to come,” he said.
“We just want to refresh energies. We’ll head to the accident scene in Rustenburg, put flowers and have a praying ceremony. Then go to the graveyard, and after we’ll have a hangout session. When the funerals happened last year, not a lot of people could make it because of the Covid-19 regulations. Now, they can come,” he said.
The event is said to be free, but a benefit concert for the deceased family, and a tribute T-shirt will be sold.
“We want to grow this into a benefit concert for the guys, where we host an event and use it as a financial solution and the proceeds go to the family. The families are also aware of this. They are part of a WhatsApp group and are made aware of everything,” he said.
